Healthy Kids Colorado Survey

Healthy Kids Colorado Survey

  • The state has been surveying young people about their health since 1991. In 2013, the state combined various surveys to streamline efforts and enhance data collection. This unified youth health survey reduces the burden on schools and allows us to better meet the data needs of schools, local communities and government agencies.

  • The purpose of the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey is to better understand youth health and what factors support youth to make healthy choices. The survey, conducted every two years, is supported by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, the Colorado Department of Education and the Colorado Department of Human Services. The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus administers the survey.

  • The HKCS is designed and implemented through a collaboration of the departments of Public Health and Environment, Education, Human Services, and Public Safety, Colorado School of Public Health at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical campus, and a community advisory committee of more than 30 organizations.

  • CDPHE updates the data on the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey website, healthykidscolo.org. Materials will include topical reports, regional results and infographics. CDPHE will also post data on its Colorado Health and Environmental Data (CHED) Adolescent Health Data website dashboard: www.cohealthdata.dphe.state.co.us/
