Support for AAPI Community following Targeted Mass Shootings

While this time of year should be a period of celebrating the Lunar New Year for Asian Americans, the recent tragic events in California involving largely populated Asian American communities is a grim reminder that mass shootings are still a very real possibility that can hit even during the best of times. Much like previous targeted violent events that affected Asian American communities, the recent shootings have the potential to create fear, anxiety and grief for Asian Americans here in Colorado. Asian Americans in our state represent over 21 Asian countries of origin. While these incidents are still under investigation and they have not yet been described as hate crimes by officials, there is no doubt that the shootings have a high and global impact on AAPI communities throughout the nation, including the state of Colorado.
